Blog Post # 3: The Purpose Statement

This week I am working on generating a purpose statement and research questions. The theoretical perspective and literature review assignment provided me with a good foundation to generate a purpose statement. I have at least decided that I would like to conduct a study of qualitative methods by surveying Speech-Language Pathologist's of the American Speech-Language & Hearing Association. I'm definitely starting to generate more ideas about the direction of my Applied Dissertation and what I would like to accomplish. During the last post, I did not have to the opportunity to post my literature review. Since I have successfully completed it, I would love any feedback.

  1. Ok Jav, good and I am glad you are feeling more comfortable, but you didn't post your purpose statement or research questions. Your lit map looks great, but I need to see your purpose statement and/or research questions. Keep in mind that Survey research are procedures in quantitative research. You can certainly give participants an open-ended survey, but surveying participants' perspectives are generally procedures in quantitative research.

  2. Dr. Reeves: Thanks for the feedback. Please see my purpose statement and research question above. For some reason, I still feel that my research method would be qualitative? By using the survey method of open ended questioning wouldn't I be gaining a participants particular view and perspective on the problem?

  3. Jav your literature map looks great! Hope you figure out what type of research you're doing. Sometimes I felt like mine would work in both areas, but I think Quantitative is my method!
